What is in the HSK 3.0 writing section?

Writing starts at HSK 2. Level 2 has five component-choice questions and five handwritten characters; level 3 adds pinyin-to-character and sentence-from-words tasks.

HSK 2 writing (10 questions): 51–55 ask you to choose the correct component or character; 56–60 ask you to write characters by hand into a sentence.

HSK 3 writing (10 questions): 5 items write the character from pinyin, and 5 items build a sentence from given words and a picture.

On HSK Prep, the component, pinyin and sentence-order tasks are auto-scored. Handwritten production (HSK 2, 56–60) is not auto-scored yet and is labelled on the paper.
