The short version
HSK 3.0 keeps six levels but adds 400 words overall and pushes writing down to level 2. The biggest day-to-day difference is the paper: shared six-option picture panels and more integrated listening tasks mean you cannot prepare by memorising isolated sentences.
If you are sitting before 13 December 2026, prepare for the current format. If your exam is after that date, switch to 3.0 materials now — the vocabulary overlap is high, but the question style is not.
